How commissions work and what to expect
I love bringing your art visions to life and welcome commissions with a focus on landscapes (which can include people/figures, just not in fine detail). Here’s how it all works:
Get in touch and and let me know you’d like to work together on a bespoke piece.
You’ll send an image of the place you want captured and we’ll discuss sizes and price. Price is decided according to size, materials and complexity. (You can get a ball park idea looking at existing original artwork).
We’ll discuss my existing artworks and looks at aspects and approaches you’d like to include in your commission and which you’d rather not. We’ll also chat about colours and landmark features.
Once agreed, you pay a 30% deposit and I book the work into the studio schedule.
I’ll send you a digital sketch roughly showing placement of landmarks and colours. With the main features and palette agreed, I’ll move on to the canvas and paint.
If the digital sketch is approved, a further 50% is required to fully commission the piece.
I do occasionally tweak palettes as the painting builds if I feel the end painting will benefit. I’ll discuss this with you in advance.
I will send you progress pictures as I go, so we can make minor adjustments. Larger adjustment or do-overs at this stage may incur additional costs.
Once the painting is complete, you’ll be sent final images for approval. The last 20% balance is then due and we’ll arrange delivery.
Helpful things to bear in mind
I only work in the style you see represented here on this website. Flat, bold blocks of colour, illustrative in style with a dash of black line work where it feels right to use it. There are heaps of other awesome artists out there if you’re after abstract work, painterly approaches or realism.
I use artistic licence often and strip out what I feel is unnecessary detail to leave the essential essence of a place. Just let me know if a particular aspect is very important and I’ll be sure to include it.
The original 30% deposit is non-refundable.
Postage and packaging are additional.
Frames are not included. Artwork is shipped ‘ready to hang’ and varnished. However, we can discuss framing options as an optional extra.
You own the physical painting. I reserve the right to make digital reproductions unless agreed in advance.
