How commissions work and what to expect
I love bringing your art visions to life and welcome commissions that are representative of my current body of work. Here’s how it all works:
Get in touch and and let me know you’d like to work together on a bespoke piece.
You’ll send me a reference image we’ll discuss sizes, price and timeframe - and if there are any issues with the image itself. Price is decided according to size, materials and in some instances complexity. For commissions there is a minimum painting order of $500 NZD.
By way of guide price here’s what to expect:
80×60cm framed - $2500
60×60cm framed - $1750.00
40×50cm framed - $950.00
30×40cm framed - $750.00
We’ll discuss my existing artworks and looks at aspects and approaches you’d like to include in your commission and which you’d rather not. We’ll also chat about colours and important features.
Once agreed, you pay a 50% deposit and I book the work into the studio schedule.
I do not tend to send progress images. Colour and shape relationships are relative to each other and shift as the painting develops. Therefore a process image will not truly reflect the direction of the final piece.
Once the painting is complete, you’ll be sent final images for approval. The last 50% balance is then due and we’ll arrange delivery.
Delivery costs must be met by the commissioner.
Helpful things to bear in mind
I only work in the style you see represented here on this website. Colour and composition led, and slightly illustrative in nature with hints of my signature vibrant background colour popping through to create harmony. There are heaps of other awesome artists out there if you’re after abstract work, painterly approaches or realism.
I am not a portrait artist. People in my paintings do bear a resemblance to those in the images I use - but it isn’t my main concern. Capturing the mood and a feeling of familiarity is. I’m happy to share examples of reference photos vs final paintings to give you a good idea of what to expect.
I use artistic licence often and strip out what I feel is unnecessary detail to leave the essential essence and create strong composition. Just let me know if a particular aspect is very important so I can be sure to include it.
The reference image you provide needs to be of fairly good resolution - old film and photo slides must be digitised at your expense and sent to me as JPG files. You must have copyright of the image.
The original 50% deposit is non-refundable.
Postage and packaging are additional.
Frames are not included. Artwork is shipped ‘ready to hang’ and varnished. However, we can discuss framing options as an optional extra. It’s often more affordable to agree this upfront as there are canvas/frame packages available from my suppliers.
I reserve the right to keep digital copies of the final painting to use in marketing and in my portfolio. I will never reproduce the artwork as a commercially available print unless with your express permission.
