I’m drawn to fleeting visual moments of light. Sun glitter on water, lens flares, moon halos, and other small tricks of light that shift with time and individual perspective. These moments reveal how light shapes what we see and how we feel. Each encounter with light becomes a record of when I was paying attention.

From my art studio in Tauranga, New Zealand, I explore slow living, memory, human connection, and our relationship with the world. The longer I’m alive, the more interested I become in how we carry our experiences and how they shape us. So whether my subject matter is landscape, a figure, or something seemingly mundane, consider my work a gentle nudge to remember that there is richness in ordinary, unglamorous, simple moments of our everyday lives.

In 2024 I was also part of a small, volunteer team of artists who brought the first BOP Open Studios art trail to life, connecting artists with local art lovers across the Bay of Plenty region. I’d love to do more to connect art and the community in creative and inclusive ways, but don’t have all the pieces of the puzzle yet. I’m sure the answers will arrive when the time is right.

I balance art with work and family life. There’s always compromise, but I’d rather show up imperfectly, messy and human than not at all.
