About Tracey

Tracey Finch is a contemporary New Zealand artist based in Tauranga, creating paintings from old, found photos to tell timeless stories.

She is interested in the cyclical nature of life, drawing inspiration from everyday moments of the past that continue to resonate across generations, regardless of era.

“People often tell me the moments I capture in my paintings feel warm and familiar, even if they don’t directly belong to the viewers exact experience.”

Tracey exhibits regularly in both national and regional exhibitions and is represented by galleries in New Zealand. Her work has been recognised through selection as a finalist in prestigious national and international awards, including the Jackson's Art Prize, Craigs Aspiring Art Prize and the Walker & Hall Waiheke Art Award.

In 2024 Tracey was also part of a small, volunteer team of artists who brought the first BOP Open Studios art trail to life, connecting artists with local art lovers across the Bay of Plenty region. She regularly participates in nationwide and local exhibitions.

A resident artist at Villa Studios at the Historic Village, Tracey balances art with work and family life.

An acknowledgement of the many & often uncelebrated roles and invisible work mid-life women undertake in society. Caregiving, organising, remembering, supporting and the constant plate spinning of roles that underpin and enable every day life. F

I’m enjoying playing with coloured frames. It’s interesting the effect they can have - either expanding or containing the painting. 📷 as yet untitled artwork heading soon to Toi Marsden art show in Wellington
Congrats to the MMCA 2026 finalists - I can’t wait to see all the artworks at the upcoming exhibition. I submitted this painting ‘Fabric of Society’ - and while sadly it didn’t make the award cut, it marked a moment of clarit

She’s a quirky little number for sure, but I love that about this painting. Does she have the wide spread appeal of a landscape? Probably not. But I know when the right person buys this painting, it’ll be because they had a very deep an
